Rockets host Warhawks in noon tip-off in MAC-Sun Belt Challenge contest

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's basketball team will put its five-game winning streak on the line when it welcomes the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday (Noon/ESPN+). The game is part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. Toledo won the first part of the two-game series with a 60-49 win at James Madison on Nov. 8.

Toledo enters Saturday's game tied for first in the MAC standings, sharing the top spot with Ball State (20-3, 10-1 MAC). ULM (15-8, 7-5 Sun Belt) is sixth in the Sun Belt standings. The Rockets and Warhawks are taking the court together for the first time on Saturday. 

Last Time Out

Toledo is coming off a 93-68 win at Central Michigan on Wednesday. Quinesha Lockett (24 points), Sophia Wiard (16 points), and Soleil Barnes (14 points) paced the attack. 

The Rockets led by as many as 21 points early in the second half before Central rallied to cut the lead to 69-59 early in the fourth quarter. Toledo responded with a 16-0 run to put the contest on ice.

The Rockets shot 32-of-59 (54.2%) from the field and a season-high 58.3% (14-of-24) from three-point range. The 25-point margin of victory tied for Toledo's largest ever on CMU's home court, matching a 92-67 margin in 1997. The 93-point total was the second-best for Toledo this year and the most in a MAC game since 2015.

Rocket Notes

    • Sammi Mikonowicz's 10 points vs. BGSU on Feb. 3 gave her 1,001 career points, making her the 33rd 1,000-point scorer in program history. She now has 1,010 career points and joins teammates Quinesha Lockett and Sophia Wiard are already members of the 1,000 Point Club at Toledo.
    • Mikonowicz also recently cracked the Top 10 in school history in career rebounds. She ranks seventh with 817 and is 17 away from passing Latoja Harris (833 from 1991-94) for sixth place. The all-time leader is Angela Drake (1,087 from 1993-97).
    • Hannah Noveroske and Sophia Wiard are shooting 65.0% and 50.9% from the floor, respectively, in MAC play. Noveroske has made 39-of-60 shots and Wiard has made 57-of-112. 
    • The Rockets are 36-4 at home since the beginning of the 2021-22 season and have won 20 straight MAC home games.
    • Since the start of 2021-22 season, Toledo is 45-4 in conference play. UT is 10-1 this year, was 16-2 a year ago, and 19-1 in 2021-22.
    • Toledo is the top free throw shooting team in the MAC, ranking first with a 75.4 FT%. Sophia Wiard is UT's top free throw shooter (88.5%) and is second in the MAC. 
    • Wiard is having the second-best three-point shooting season ever by a Rocket, having connected on 41-of-90 (45.6%) three-pointers. Courtney Risinger holds the single-season school record for three-point field goal percentage with a 45.0% mark in the 2001-02 season.
    • Wiard has been even better from three-point range in MAC play, shooting 57.4% (27-of-47) from beyond the arc.
    • Quinesha Lockett recently moved into second place all-time in career scoring at Toledo. Her 2,224 career points are ninth-most among active Division I players and are more than any other active MAC player.
    • Toledo leads the league in scoring defense (60.1) and ranks third in scoring offense (71.1).
