Rockets to Face Mercyhurst at Home on Friday

Holiday Game to tip off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team will take on Mercyhurst on Friday, Dec. 6, battling the Lakers for the first time ever. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+ with radio broadcasts on 1370 WSPD and 92.9 FM, along with The Varsity Network app.
The Rockets (4-2, 0-0 MAC) split its weekend tournament games at the Navy Thanksgiving Classic. Toledo ended Navy's previously undefeated season with a 58-51 triumph behind a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double from Sammi Mikonowicz. The Rockets also grabbed 59 rebounds and held Navy to just two points in the first quarter to tie a program record. Toledo fell to No. 10 Maryland, 92-70 to close the weekend on Sunday, with Khera Goss reaching 1,000.
The Lakers (2-5, 0-0 NEC) are in their first year transitioning to the Division I level. Mercyhurst most recently suffered a 64-63 overtime defeat at Cornell on Nov. 27. Mercyhurst's home matchup against Army scheduled for Dec. 3 was postponed due to weather.
Friday will be Toledo's Holiday Game. Fans are encouraged to wear their ugly holiday sweaters and the first 100 students will receive a free ugly holiday sweater t-shirt. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet The Grinch and participate in the halftime teddy bear toss.
General parking is available in Lots 1 and 2 while premium parking is available in lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and 18.

- Toledo enters Friday's matchup on an 18-game winning streak at Savage Arena.
- The Rockets have pulled off multiple double-digit comebacks at home this season, coming back from 16 down to defeat Marshall in the season opener, and from 14 down in the second half to top Northern Kentucky.
- Should Toledo win on Friday, its home winning streak will reach one calendar year, having started with a 69-46 victory against Michigan on Dec. 6, 2023.
- The Rockets once again far out-pace the MAC in attendance thus far, and have eclipsed over 4,000 fans in each of the last two home games.
- Following her performance in the Navy Thanksgiving Classic, Sammi Mikonowicz was tabbed the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The honor commends a male and female student-athlete each week who showed a worthy athletic performance and holds at least a 3.0 GPA.
- She earned the recognition after averaging 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the tournament.
- The Rossford, Ohio native shot 65.0% (13-for-20) from the field including 57.1% (4-for-7) from three. She was named to the Navy Classic All-Tournament Team.
- Against Navy, Mikonowicz exploded for 27 points and 10 rebounds, setting the tone with the game's first nine points. She set a career high in points and marked her 17th double-double in her career.
- As a team, Toledo was also recognized in the polls, where it received 30 votes and was No. 28 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 announced on Tuesday.
- The Rockets received votes among MAC peers Buffalo (No. 11 – 438 votes), Ball State (No. 12 – 429 votes), Kent State (31 votes) and Bowling Green (1 vote).
- Toledo will face its only opponent from the NEC this season, and will play against its sixth different conference in its first seven non-conference games on Friday.
- Mercyhurst will be Toledo's first opponent with a losing record coming into its matchup with the Rockets. Toledo is 2-0 against teams that are even/.500 and 2-2 against teams with winning records this season.
- Mikonowicz is fourth in the MAC in scoring, averaging 15.17 points per game. She has scored in double-figures in five of Toledo's six games.
- Cadence Dykstra averaged 7.5 rebounds across the two games in Annapolis, grabbing a career-high nine on Saturday.
- Kendall Carruthers is seventh in the league in assist/turnover ratio (1.29) and tied for ninth with 3.00 assists/game.
