Contest vs. Wolverines to tip off at 7:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team will play its second and final exhibition game prior to the 2024-25 campaign when it travels to the University of Michigan on Friday, Oct. 25. Tip-off time is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Crisler Center with the contest being televised on the Big Ten Network.
Â
The exhibition game will benefit the University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and its Child and Family Life, which offers a variety of therapies for patients including art, music, Lego and video games.
Â
Toledo posted a 76-71 exhibition victory over NCAA Division II foe Grand Valley State on Saturday in Savage Arena. Eleven Rockets played in the contest with sophomore Sonny Wilson leading the way with 15 points and six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were sophomore Sam Lewis (11 pts.) and junior Seth Hubbard (10 pts.).
"We learned a lot about ourselves against Grand Valley and started to figure out what type of rotations we'll have," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Now we get the opportunity to go on the road to play a very good Michigan team. It's a game that will provide us another learning experience in a great road environment."
Toledo's matchup vs. Michigan will be the first meeting between the two programs in an exhibition game. The Rockets and Wolverines have faced each other twice in the Crisler Center the last four seasons. The last meeting saw UM post a 90-80 victory in a 2023 NIT first-round contest.
The Rockets are looking to win an unprecedented fifth consecutive league crown. UT is the only current MAC program ever to win four straight outright league titles and is returning two starters from last year's squad that posted a 20-12 overall record and 14-4 league mark.Â
Â
Toledo was picked to finish fourth in this year's preseason poll by the league's head coaches, finishing behind Ohio, Akron and Kent State and marking the fourth consecutive year UT has not been selected as the preseason favorite . In addition, sophomore Javan Simmons and senior transfer Isaiah Adams were honored by being named to the Preseason All-MAC First and Second Team squads, respectively.
Toledo opens its regular season in Alabama on Monday, Nov. 4 with a MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup at Troy. The Rockets will then travel to Huntington, W. Va. to battle Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 9 before returning to the Glass City to host Wright State in their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
