Kinyanjui and Serem earn award for second consecutive week following stellar performances
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo freshmen Mercy Kinyanjui and Dominic Serem were named the Mid-American Conference Women's and Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday morning. This is the second-straight week Kinyanjui and Serem have been awarded the honor.
Kinyanjui led the Toledo women's cross country team in the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals race on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Madison, Wis. The Kiambu, Kenya native placed 17th overall out of 251 runners in a nationally competitive field with a final mark of 19:51.00 as the Rockets took 19th in the team standings. Toledo competed against 33 teams, including 29 ranked or receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll at the event.
Serem paced the Toledo men's cross country team in the 8K event at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 18 in Princeton, N.J. The Nandi South, Kenya native earned a third-place overall finish with a time of 22:43.9 as he led the team for the second straight meet. Serem helped the Rockets placed 13th in the team standings as the squad competed against some of the top teams in the nation.
