TOLEDO, Ohio – Sophomore Sonny Wilson scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Toledo men's basketball team to a 76-71 exhibition victory over NCAA Division II foe Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon in Savage Arena.

"We played 11 guys and learned a lot about ourselves today," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Grand Valley State is an athletic team and has some size. We've been practicing against each other for quite a while, and it was good for us to finally get a chance to face someone else and see what we need to work on."

Wilson was joined in double digits by sophomore Sam Lewis (11 pts.) and junior Seth Hubbard (10 pts.). Wilson also tied for the team rebounding lead with sophomore Javan Simmons with six boards.

Senior William Dunn topped the Lakers offensively with 13 points.

Toledo shot 48.0 percent from the field, including a 63.0 clip in the first half en route to a 43-35 halftime lead. GVSU posted a 40.7 shooting mark and was 11-of-26 from three-point range.

The Rockets never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 17 points in the second half.

Toledo will visit Michigan on Friday, Oct. 25 in its final exhibition prior to officially opening its 2024-25 season on Monday, Nov. 4 at Troy in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
