Toledo Visits Akron on Wednesday Night

Rockets and Zips will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team heads to Akron this week to face the Zips on Wednesday night at James A. Rhodes Arena. The Mid-American Conference matchup will tip off at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
This will be the only meeting between the Rockets (14-4, 7-1 MAC) and Zips (7-11, 2-6 MAC) this season.
Toledo is tied with Kent State (13-5, 7-1 MAC) for second place in the MAC standings, and both teams are one game back of first-place Ball State (18-2, 8-0 MAC). Three teams are locked in a tie behind the Rockets and Golden Flashes to round out the top five spots in the conference standings.
Last Time Out
Toledo is coming off a 67-63 win vs. Buffalo on Saturday night.
The Rockets led by 12 at halftime, but saw their lead disappear by the end of the third quarter. The Bulls outscored UT 18-5 in the third quarter to grab their first lead of the game, 43-42. Toledo was able to wrestle the lead back in the fourth quarter, but Buffalo fought back to tie the score on four separate occasions. The last such occurrence was with 1:24 left in the game, but on the next possession Khera Goss knocked down a jumper with 48 seconds left to give Toledo a 65-63 lead. Jessica Cook made a pair of clutch free throws with just 20 seconds remaining to ice the game.

Akron is 7-11 overall and 2-6 in MAC play, having just snapped a four-game losing skid with a 61-59 win at Northern Illinois this past Saturday. Reagan Bass leads the league in rebounding (11.28) and is third in scoring (18.00), making her the only player in the MAC to rank in the top five in the league in both categories. Morgan Haney (10.5 PPG) is the next-highest scorer on Akron's roster.

- Sammi Mikonowicz enters Wednesday's game with 984 career points, putting her 16 away from becoming the 33rd 1,000-point scorer in program history.
- Mikonowicz also recently cracked the Top 10 in school history in career rebounds. She ranks ninth with 798 and is 11 away from passing Jen Markwood (1996-2000) to move into eighth place.
- One more Mikonowicz note: she is averaging 9.6 PPG in MAC play, nearly two points per game higher than her overall season average. She has scored in double figures four times in league play and had a season-best 14 points vs. Buffalo.
