Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rockets Dominate the Boards in 63-50 Win vs. Bobcats

Toledo outrebounds Ohio 52-29 to win fifth straight game

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team dominated the glass on Saturday and won its fifth straight game, a 63-50 victory vs. Ohio at Savage Arena.

The Rockets improved to 11-3 and 4-0 in MAC play, while the Bobcats dropped to 4-10 and 1-3 in league games.

Toledo outrebounded Ohio, 52-29, and collected 23 offensive rebounds in the victory. It's the best rebounding game for UT since grabbing 54 boards vs. Oakland last season. The offensive rebound output was also its largest since recording 25 offensive boards at Northern Illinois on March 1, 2017.

The Rockets led for nearly the entire game, but their first-half turnovers kept the Bobcats within striking distance. An extended scoring run in the middle of the third quarter pushed Toledo's lead to double-digits, and its deft three-point shooting in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.

"This was a very physical game," head coach Tricia Cullop said. "I was really proud of the mental toughness we showed. I was also proud of the players who stepped up today. I thought Hannah Noveroske was great, and it was also nice to see Khera Goss and Emmi Rinat step up and get into double figures. I still want us to take better care of the basketball, but Ohio's defense can make you play ugly at times. But I'm really proud of the fact that our defense held them to what we did, our defense has been really strong during this stretch of games."

Khera Goss scored a team-best 15 points, while Hannah Noveroske and Emmi Rinat followed close behind with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Goss and Noveroske were both one rebound shy of a double-double, collecting nine rebounds apiece. Nan Garcia's 11 boards were the most of any player on the floor on Saturday.

Ohio was led offensively by Kennedi Watkins, who scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

The Rockets will play their next two games on the road at Kent State on Wednesday, Jan. 17, and at Ball State on Sunday, Jan. 21. The Ball State game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and will tip off at 6:00 p.m.

Toledo's next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 24 vs. Northern Illinois.
