TOLEDO, Ohio – After one week off of racing, the Toledo men's and women's cross country teams will resume competition this Friday, Sept. 29 along Lake Michigan at the 2023 Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago. Hosted by Loyola Chicago, the women will open the day with an 11:00 a.m. 6K, and the men will follow with an 11:45 a.m. 8K race.
The women's team is coming off a first-place finish at Bowling Green's Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Sept. 15. Sophomore
Lianna Surtz (20:57.06) finished second overall in her first collegiate race. She was followed by senior
Madeline Vining and junior
Morgan Hicks, who finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Sophomore
Jaydon Cirincione (21:48.18) and junior
Alex Bauer (22:09.28) also made their UT race debut and finished in the top 20.
The men's team took sixth in the 8K race at Bowling Green, led by senior
Ben Towler (25:58.58) who finished 24
th overall.Â
The women's squad has received votes in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches Poll for the past two weeks, after receiving a No. 28 preseason ranking on Aug. 30.
