Barend Botha Named MAC Men's Co-Golfer of Week

Senior receives honor from conference for seventh time in Rocket career

TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior Barend Botha was named Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week by the league office on Thursday. It is the seventh time in his career he has received the weekly award.

A George, South Africa native, Botha continued his strong start to the season by tying for eighth place at nine-under par 207 to lead the Rockets at the VCU Shootout. The reigning Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year, Botha opened the tournament with a four-under par 68 and followed it with a two-under par 70 and three-under par 69 to lower his season stroke average to 69.3.

Botha has now shot par or better in each of his six rounds this fall and has registered 18 Top-10 finishes in his Rocket career.

Botha and the Rockets will be back in action on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 8-10 with a trip to Jonesborough, Tenn. for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
