TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo Head Men's Tennis Coach Al Wermer announced the addition of Thomas Brennan as his next graduate assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. Brennan comes to Toledo after competing for five years at Butler University (2019-23).

"Tom comes fresh from a brilliant Big East award-winning college career as Butler's top player," said Wermer, the 2023 MAC Coach of the Year. "His recommendations are strong for his leadership skills, personality, and game knowledge. He will help our program and help our players do what they came for, to improve, have a great experience, and win!"

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Brennan was a four-time All-Big East selection, three-year Butler team captain, and set the school record for most singles wins in program history with 150. His performance had helped the Bulldogs to three-consecutive appearances in the Big East tournament, most recently finishing runner-up in 2023. Brennan led the Bulldogs from the No. 1 court this season with a 17-6 singles record and an 18-9 doubles record. During the 2022 season, Brennan had an outstanding 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 comeback win to help Butler defeat Indiana for the first time since 1974.

In addition to his collegiate accolades, Brennan was the former national junior champion in singles and doubles competitions. He was the former No. 1 junior player and the current No.5 senior player in Ireland, and represented his country in the European Junior Championships. Brennan was also selected to represent Ireland in the 2023 Davis Cup.

Brennan graduated from Butler in 2023 with a degree in international business.
