AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Lianna Surtz was the leading distance runner for Toledo's participants on the second day of competition of the 2023 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Trak & Field Championships Friday at the Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex. Surtz was the only podium finisher for the Rockets on Friday afternoon.

Surtz crushed her previous personal-best time by nearly six seconds with a time of 10:49.19 to finish on the podium. Jordyn Boyer followed suite to record a new PR time of 11:23.81 to finish in 13^th place.

The 100m hurdles group of Alexia Moehling and Mayson Bates opened Friday's competition for the Rockets.

Toledo finished 13-14-15 in the 400m time trials, and all posted personal-best times. Heading the group of three Rockets were Laryah Worthy with a new best time of 58.52, followed by Khamani Jones at an impressive personal time of 58.70, and rounded out by Shianne Johnson who was clocked at a new PR time of 58.73.

Ava Moran was the lone Midnight Blue and Gold representative in the 100m dash and finished with a time of 12.34.

Audrey Witham finished 10^th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:15.74 and nearly qualified for Saturday's final heat. Krystal Clark also ran the 800m and finished 15^th-overall with a time of 2:18.38.

In the field events, Sydney Caddell and Amara Okpalaoka finished 17th and 18th respectively in the long jump. Caddell jumped 5.60m and Okpalaoka reached a mark of 5.40m.

Toledo moved to ninth place in the team standings with 22 team points. Miami leads the women's teams with 43.50 pts., ahead of Kent State with 41 team points.

Competition will conclude tomorrow morning with field events kicking off at 10:00 a.m. followed by running events at 12:50 p.m.
