TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior
Tyler Cochran registered his first double-double as a Rocket with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and junior
Ra'Heim Moss poured in 21 points to propel the Toledo men's basketball team to a come-from-behind 84-80 victory over Northern Iowa (3-7) on Saturday afternoon in Savage Arena.
"It was a great team win in a high-level game with two teams that played exceptionally hard," said Head Coach
Tod Kowalczyk after the Rockets (5-4) defeated the Panthers for a second-straight season. "We just have to keep maturing and we will. We had five freshmen playing today, and Northern Iowa is one of the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference and had just one freshman that played."
Also scoring in double figures for the Rockets were redshirt freshman
Javan Simmons and junior
Dante Maddox Jr. with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Sophomore Bowen Born topped the Panthers with a game-high 31 points.
Northern Iowa held a slight edge in the shooting department with its 51.8 FG% compared to Rockets' 46.7 mark. Toledo made up for that with a seven-point advantage at the free-throw line, with its 20-of-26 totals surpassing UNI's 13-of-16 figure.
UT also outscored the Panthers by a 21-2 margin in points off turnovers. The Rockets committed just a season-low six miscues, seven fewer than Northern Iowa.
Toledo will continue its three-game homestand vs. Marshall on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Tip-off time in Savage Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+.
