Toledo Trounces Hillsdale, 94-52, in Non-Conference Finale

Rockets explode for highest single-game scoring output since 2016-17 season

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team concluded non-conference play on Saturday with a 94-52 victory vs. Hillsdale.

The Rockets improved to 7-3 with the win and produced their best scoring game of the season. It was also their highest single-game point total since scoring 99 vs. Madonna on Dec. 4, 2016.

Toledo led by double-digits at the end of the first quarter and saw its advantage balloon into the 20's near the midway point of the second quarter. The third quarter was a bit more even, but the Rockets shot a blistering 69.2% from the floor (9-for-13) in the fourth quarter to close things out in its most productive offensive game of the season.

"I'm proud of the way we played today," head coach Tricia Cullop said. "Sometimes coming back after the holidays you're worried about getting the rust off, and I thought we played really hard today. I'm proud of our bench as well for coming in and providing great energy. I really appreciate how hard our kids played knowing that this game mattered in our preparations for conference play."

Four Rockets scored in double figures on Saturday, with Sophia Wiard contributing a game-high 20 points. She knocked down 6-of-8 shots from the floor while going 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Wiard turned in a terrific all-around performance vs. the Chargers, adding seven assists, six rebounds, five steals, while only turning the ball over once.

Khera Goss scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and Nan Garcia added 13 points. Hannah Noveroske was on rebound shy of a double-double, contributing 10 points and nine boards. Sammi Mikonowicz led all players with 11 rebounds.

Soleil Barnes also made her season debut after missing the first nine games recovering from an injury. She played 8:55 and knocked down a three while dishing out three assists.

Toledo shot 52.9% from the field, making 36-of-68 shots, and held Hillsdale to 30.4% shooting (17-of-56). The Rockets also won the battle of the boards, posting a season-high 49 rebounds to Hillsdale's 23.

Mid-American Conference play begins on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Miami. Toledo will face Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti on Saturday, Jan. 6 before returning home to host Western Michigan on Wednesday, Jan .10 in its first home MAC game of the year.

"Our non-conference schedule wasn't easy. We played a lot of tough teams," Wiard said. "But it's a whole new season now. We're not looking back, we're looking ahead to MAC play. That's the most important thing right now."
