TOLEDO, Ohio – Sophia Wiard was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday.

Wiard graduated with her bachelor's degree in finance this past May and is currently working towards her MBA. As an undergraduate student, she carried a 3.88 cumulative GPA. This is the second time in her career that she has been named one of the MAC's Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

Wiard helped lead Toledo to a pair of wins last week over Michigan and Loyola Maryland. She was outstanding in a big 69-46 win vs. the Wolverines, who were ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll entering the game, scoring 14 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out five assists. She only had one turnover against the Wolverines last Wednesday and helped the Rockets beat them for a second straight season.

In Sunday's 65-35 win vs. Loyola Maryland, Wiard scored 13 points while adding five rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals as well.

Wiard is averaging 13.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 4.7 APG this season and ranks second in the MAC in assist/turnover ratio (2.06).

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition.  Each week schools are asked to nominate one female and one male among the sports that are in season at the time.  The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
