Toledo Signs 12 in the 2024 Recruiting Class

Rockets welcome a dozen freshmen to their roster next fall

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's soccer head coach Mark Batman announced the signing of 11 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent this week. The influx of freshmen will don the Midnight Blue and Gold beginning next fall.
 
"We are very excited about this new generation of Toledo Soccer," Batman said. "All of these girls represent what we want this program to look like in the fall of 2024 and years to come. They will complement an already very talented group of young women and we can't wait for their arrival next fall."
 
The following is a look at the Toledo's 2024 recruiting class:
 
Gabrielle Anulare
New Baltimore, MI | Anchor Bay High School | Liverpool IA Michigan
 
A 5-8 midfielder, Gabrielle Anulare is a three-time all-district and all-academic honoree, a one-time all-region selection, and earned a first-team all-state nod. She helped ABHS to three district championships, an Elite 8 appearance, and a MAC Red Championship. Anulare was named Most Valuable Player and captain of her club team Liverpool IA Michigan.
 
Why Toledo? "The moment I stepped foot on campus, it felt different than any other school. The coaches made me feel comfortable to be myself. I loved everything about the school and what they have to offer."
 
Cameron Cole
Auburn Hills, MI | Orchard Lake St. Mary's High School | Liverpool IA Michigan
 
A 5-6 forward, Cameron Cole is a four-sport athlete, earning varsity letters in soccer, basketball, volleyball, and track & field. Cole earned the 2022 Golden Boot Award with 39 goals and 24 assists, and again in 2023 with 25 goals and 14 assists. She is a two-time all-state honoree, as well as all-region, all-district, and CHSL all-Catholic honoree. The three-year team captain was also named Most Valuable Player in 2022 and 2023. At the club level, Cole earned the Liverpool Coaches Award for the 2022-23 season and team captain in 2023-24.
 
Why Toledo? "I loved the soccer program and staff, the beautiful campus, the strong engineering program, and it is the perfect distance from home."
 
Merritt Delk
Wheeling, WV | Wheeling Park High School | Century FC
 
A 5-10 forward, Merritt Delk is a tri-sport athlete in soccer, basketball, and track & field. Delt is Wheeling Park's all-time leading scorer with 143 goals and has the school's record for most goals in a single season with 46. She is a four-time WVHSSCA all-state honoree, two-time first-team All-OVAC, and three-time All-Valley Team selection. Her team won the 2020 WVSSAC AAA Girls Soccer State Champion, and she was named All-Valley Captain in 2022. In 2021, she was named Sports Writers' Association Girls Soccer Player of the Year, All-Valley captain, and led her team to a WVSSAC AAA Girls Soccer runner-up finish. Her father David played football at the University of Virginia, and her sister Emma played soccer at Fairmont State University.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose the University of Toledo because of the competitive soccer program, the many opportunities in the classroom, and the great atmosphere the university provides for its students."
 
Paige Dornheggen
Cincinnati, OH | Turpin High School| CUP
 
A 5-10 goalkeeper, Paige Dornheggen has played soccer for 14 years. In 2021, '22, and '23, her club team qualified for the Girls Academic Playoffs and Champions League and was selected for the Girls Academy Talent ID selection for the Mid-American Conference.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose the University of Toledo because the moment I stepped on campus I knew I could make it a second home. Toledo also has a great business program that can help me achieve my future goals. And most importantly, Coach Batman and his staff made me feel very welcomed and I knew they could take me under their wings for the next four years."
 
Teagan Ferrington
Whitehouse OH | Anthony Wayne High School | Pacesetters SC
 
A local 5-3 defender, Teagan Ferrington is a second-team all-district, first-team all-academic, and two-time all-league honoree.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose to attend the University of Toledo for the opportunities to grow as an athlete and student, and for the welcoming environment that the campus brings."
 
Sydney Hardesty
Loveland, OH | Cincinnati Country Day School | CUP
 
A 5-5 defender, Sydney Hardesty brings with her a great list of accomplishments and recognitions to the Glass City. Hardesty is a three-time all-Miami Valley Conference honoree and a Cincinnati Enquirer first-team all-district recruit. She was named to the High School All-America Watch List (2023), a USA Today Top-Ohio Player (all divisions), and ranked sixth in the state. Hardesty led her team to two state championships, the 2020 state finals, the 2023 UYSY National Championship, three Ohio State Cup South Championship finals and two titles, and the 2023 GA Nationals. She was also awarded the title of 2022 CCDS Player of the Year and 2023 team captain.
 
Why Toledo? "I love Coach Batman, Coach Cliff, and Coach Sam. The environment at Toledo felt very welcoming and I knew it was the right fit for me. I like the campus as well, and I've heard great things about the university."

Sydney Hooks
Southfield, MI | Stony Creek High School | Nationals Blue
 
A 5'2" defender, Sydney Hooks had a US Girls National Team U14 Central Region call-up in the spring of 2020 and was invited to the US National Team Virtual Team Camp in the spring of 2021. Outside of soccer, Hooks is an honor student who tutors others in Spanish and helps elementary-level children with Spanish as a first language to learn English.
 
Her brother DJ played soccer at Butler University, and her sister Amber competed on the Michigan club gymnastics team.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose the University of Toledo because it offered everything I wanted athletically and academically. Once I stepped on campus it felt like home."
 
Abigail Morotta
Marion, NY | Marion Jr./ Sr. High School | WNY Flash
 
A 5-9 defender, Abigail Marotta has 128 career goals and 96 career assists. She earned five Wayne Country first-team all-star honors, two first-team all-greater Rochester honors, an ECNL Ohio Valley All-Conference first-team selection, and helped her team to two Section V Class C Championships and an NYS Final Four appearance in 2019. Additionally, Mototta was named the 2021 Way County Player of the Year and Youth National Team ID Center in 2019.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose the University of Toledo because I truly love everything about the university. I'm excited to play for this coaching staff and play with this team. I'm excited to live on a beautiful campus and to have found a major that fits me."
 
Rylee Sorrell
Lebanon, OH | Lebanon High School | Ohio Elite
 
A 5-7 defender, Rylee Sorrell earned varsity letters in soccer and track & field. She earned EEC second-team honors as a sophomore and helped her team to an ECNL Ohio Valley South Conference Championship in 2022.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose to attend the University of Toledo because the culture and atmosphere of the team were amazing, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I fell in love with the campus and cannot wait for my future at Toledo!"
 
Morgan Spitler
Centerville, OH | Centerville High School | Ohio Elite
 
Morgan Spitler, at 5-4, can play midfield and forward. She is a student scholar-athlete, also collecting All-GWOC honors, ECNL 2021-22 All-Conference first-team recognition, and had a Top-Drawer Soccer Top-55 Girls Class of 2024 Great Lakes Regional ranking. Her sister Chloe is a student-athlete at Cincinnati.
 
Amya Usher
Indianapolis, IN | Cathedral High School | Indy Eleven Pro Academy
 
The 5-8 forward is a four-time varsity letterwinner and multi-position player both defensively and offensively, having scored 18 goals and 10 assists. Amya Usher helped Cathedral to four sectional championships, two regional championships, one semi-state championship, one semi-state runner-up finish, and one state championship runner-up finish. Usher was named to the 2022 Indianapolis City Soccer All-tournament Team and the 2023 MCCGSA All-City Soccer Team.
 
Why Toledo? "After I visited the University of Toledo and several other colleges, it did not take long for me to decide that Toledo was the school for me. The coaching staff, team, and academic staff I met made me feel so comfortable during my visit. I knew this was the school for me because I felt this school, team, and environment would provide me with the best opportunities for my future. And it would feel like home to me."
 
Kimberly "Kimmie" Woeste
Edgewood, KY | Notre Dame Academy | CUP
 
A 5-6 midfielder, Kimmie Woeste has earned three soccer varsity letters and was a two-time varsity captain. She's earned two first-team all-region honors, a first-team all-state nod, an all-state honorable mention, and a ninth-regional all-tournament team and state all-tournament team selection in 2023. Woeste helped her team to a 2021 Kentucky State Championship and was recognized once as a Cincinnati Enquirer Player of the Week. Her father Brian played soccer at Northern Kentucky University.
 
Why Toledo? "I chose to attend the University of Toledo because of the multitude of opportunities that are offered. I knew when I visited the campus that it was a great fit for me. The community around the soccer program also seemed special."
