Quinesha Lockett Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

Fifth-year senior one of just two mid-major players to be recognized

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's basketball fifth-year senior Quinesha Lockett has been selected to the 2023-24 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced.

The Naismith Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding college basketball player in the country.

Lockett was one of 50 players named to the preseason watch list, and was joined by Columbia guard Abbey Hsu as one of just two mid-major players to be recognized.

A Preseason First-Team All-MAC selection, Lockett has been tapped for two other major award watch lists as well. Last month she was named to preseason watch lists for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.

The reigning MAC Player of the Year and MAC Tournament MVP, Lockett became the first conference player of the year for Toledo since 1998-99 when she won the award last year. She was also named First-Team All-MAC for the second straight season. Lockett averaged 17.9 PPG last year, which ranked second in the MAC, and also averaged 4.9 RPG and 3.6 APG. The Omaha, Neb. native stood tall when it mattered most, leading the Rockets to a MAC Tournament title and tallying a double-double (24 points and 13 rebounds) in Toledo's NCAA Tournament win vs. No. 5 seed Iowa State.

Lockett enters the season on the cusp of a major milestone, as her 1,992 career points put her just eight away from becoming the third Rocket ever with 2,000 career points. She would join Mimi Olson (2,144 points) and Kim Knuth (2,509 points) as the lone women's basketball players to reach that benchmark.

Toledo begins its quest for a third straight MAC Championship this Wednesday, Nov. 8 at James Madison. The Rockets and Dukes will tip off at 7:00 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+. The Rockets' home opener is set for Sunday, Nov. 19 vs. Cincinnati at 2:00 p.m.

Season and individual game tickets for the women's basketball program are on sale now.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at the Sullivan Athletic Complex in Savage Arena, contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653) or go online to UTRockets.com/tix.
