Toledo Releases Spring 2024 Schedule; Slate Includes Five Power-Five Schools

Rockets will host seven dual matches this spring and the 2024 MAC Championship Tournament
TOLEDO, Ohio – Head Coach Al Wermer and the Toledo men's tennis team are counting down the days until the start of the spring portion of the 2023-24 schedule, which is slated to begin on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Rockets will play 22 matches, including seven at home, and host the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament on April 26-27.
The defending MAC regular-season and tournament champion Rockets will begin their 2024 spring campaign with a tough non-conference schedule against five Power-Five programs.
"Our guys came to Toledo for this level of competition and the training that comes with it," said Wermer, who was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2023.
Toledo begins dual competition with seven road matches, starting with Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 13. UT will then visit NCAA Tournament first-round participant Illinois (Jan. 20) and play a doubleheader against Butler and IUPUI (Jan. 21) on their way back to Ohio. The Rockets will travel south to 2023 Big Ten Tournament Champion Ohio State (Jan. 24) before finishing at Temple (Jan. 26) and Penn State (Jan. 27) in University Park, PA. Â
Toledo's home opener will take place on Friday, Feb. 2 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club vs. 2023 GLIAC Tournament Champions Wayne State.
UT will play three consecutive matches vs. Cleveland State, at Chicago State and at Notre Dame on Feb. 9-11. The Midnight Blue and Gold will finish its non-conference schedule at Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 29) in Fort Myers, Fla. over spring break.
Toledo will open conference play at Buffalo on Saturday, March 9 before hosting Ball State (March 15) and Western Michigan (March 17) the following week. All MAC men's tennis programs will play a home-and-home this season. The Rockets will host UIC (April 5), Northern Illinois (April 7), and the Bulls (April 13) before the conference tournament.
The top four teams in the conference standings will play in the MAC Tournament, which is slated for Saturday-Sunday, April 20-21 at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts.Â
