Rockets welcoming two in-state signees for next season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Head coach Jason Oliver and the Toledo women's volleyball program announced the additions of Grace Freiberger (Lima, Ohio) and Olivia Heitkamp (New Breman, Ohio) to its 2024 recruiting class on Thursday.
Freiberger and Heitkamp will join the Rockets for the 2024 season. Below is a look at the two newest members of the Toledo women's volleyball program:
Grace Freiberger | 5-7 | Defensive Specialist/Libero | Lima, Ohio | Shawnee High School
Freiberger recently wrapped up a successful career at Shawnee High School, where she is the all-time leader in career digs with 1,746. A four-time all-league honoree, she was named WBL Player of the Year and District Player of the Year this past season after averaging 6.2 digs/set as a senior. The four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain averaged 5.87 digs/set for her career and was terrific at the service line as well, averaging 0.72 aces/set. A talented athlete, Freiberger is also a four-year letterwinner on the basketball team.
Jason Oliver on Grace Freiberger: "Grace is just one of those special people that you want to coach. I would point to her passion for volleyball and her natural leadership skills as two of the things that we just loved about her in our recruiting process. She fell in love with Toledo and basically said she wants to be a Rocket so bad that we better take her. I love those types of people. Grace is a go-getter and a very skilled volleyball player. Her serving ability and ball-handling skills will have an immediate impact on us moving forward."
Olivia Heitkamp | 6-1 | Outside Hitter/Right-Side Hitter | New Bremen, Ohio | New Bremen High School
Heitkamp ended her high school career on a high note, helping lead New Bremen High School to its second straight state championship this past weekend. A three-time all-conference recipient, she also won three Midwest Athletic Conference Championships during her high school career. Heitkamp was an AVCA All-Region honoree as a senior this past season, averaging 4.98 kills/set and hitting .313 for New Bremen. For her career, she averaged 3.25 kills/set 1.12 digs/set in four seasons on the varsity squad.
Jason Oliver on Olivia Heitkamp: "We are very excited about the future with Olivia. She is a winner through and through. She plays for a high school program that has won back-to-back state championships and Diane Kramer, her coach at New Bremen High School, is a legend at getting players ready for the next step. I love Olivia's character and leadership. She brings something more than just athleticism, she brings a winning mentality. From day one in our recruiting process with Olivia, we felt like she was a Rocket. We are very excited to add her to our team."
