Freshman Leah Gentry-Tuney finished second in the 50 freestyle, and was part of relay teams that took third in the 200 freestyle relay and sixth in the 400 medley relay on Thursday evening in Cleveland, Ohio.

Rockets sit in fifth place with 191 team points

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo freshman Leah Gentry-Tuney and sophomore Janne Slegers led the Toledo women's swimming & diving team on the first day of Cleveland State's 11th Annual Magnus Cup Invitational on Thursday evening. Both swimmers placed in the top 10 in an individual event, as well as swimming on both of Toledo's top-10 relay teams.

Gentry-Tuney made a statement in the 50 breaststroke, finishing runner-up with a time of 28.52 to beat the former meet record (28.64) set in 2021, while Slegers finished 10th overall in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.76.  
 
Senior Lauren Kilgore swam a 2:02.21 in the 200 IM to finish fourth, for her fastest time this season. Senior Madison Giglio led UT on the 3-meter diving boards with a fifth-place finish (263.90), followed by sophomore Annie Bartlett who finished ninth overall (245.60). Senior Jovana Duric rounded out the top 10 of the 500 freestyle clocking in at 5:01.26, her fastest time this season.

Toledo's 200 freestyle relay team of Slegers, freshman Leah Evans, senior Kennedy Lovell, and Gentry-Tuney touched the wall third overall at 1:32.97, the fastest time by the Midnight Blue and Gold so far this year. UT wrapped up Friday's schedule with a sixth-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:45.13 by junior Faith Sill, Gentry-Tuney, Evans, and Sleggers.

In the team standings, Toledo is in fifth place with 191 team points, six points behind fourth-place Tulane. The Rockets had a big turnout in the prelims to advance 13 swimmers and three divers to the finals and recorded eight top-10 finishes.

The invitational continues tomorrow with prelims at 9:00 a.m., followed by 1-meter diving at 1:00 p.m., and the finals heats at 6:00 p.m.
