Rockets in second place and just five strokes behind tournament leader Akron
PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Junior Kyleigh Dull is tied for first place and the Toledo women's golf team is just five strokes out of the lead following Monday's first two rounds of the Rocket Classic at the par-72, 5,979-yard Catawba Island Club.
Dull is tied with Akron's Avery Wright after shooting a six-over par 150 in cold, blustery conditions throughout the day. She opened the tourney with a one-over par 73 this morning and followed it with a five-over par 77.
"I played this course when I was growing up," said Dull, a Fremont, Ohio native. "I was just trying to stay warm out there and focus the best I could since we were playing 36 holes. In the morning I was making a lot of putts, but when the wind picked up it was harder to keep my putting stroke straight. I just tried to hang in there and take advantage of my birdie opportunities."
Senior Angel Hii also sits in the Top 10 for the Rockets and is tied for sixth place at 12-over par 156 (81-75). The remainder of Toledo's lineup consisted of senior Amelia Lee (15th/160), senior Macy Hanus (T-16th/161), and freshman Mia Natividad (T-26th/166).
Junior Yedam Lee led a quartet of Rocket individuals and is tied for ninth place with a 13-over par 157. She was followed by senior Cheryl Hong (T-11th/158), senior Kaitlyn Natividad (T-16th/161), and junior Cameron Ford (T-35th/175).
The third and final round of the tournament will begin tomorrow with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
