Toledo Looks for Mid-American Conference Championship Three-Peat this Saturday

Rockets will race for the conference title at noon on Saturday in Bowling Green
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's cross country team is looking for a three-peat of the Mid-American Conference Championship title this Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course in Bowling Green, Ohio. The 6K will start at noon.
Toledo is the highest-ranked MAC program in the Great Lakes Region heading into the championship meet at No. 6. The Rockets return three of the nine runners from last season's championship team into the 2023 lineup, including second-team All-MAC honorees Emily Vining (8th) and Madeline Vining (10th).
Transfers Vilde Henriksen and Laura Nicholson have made major strides this season and are in a position to play a role in Toledo's attempt to capture a third-straight title. Two-time Coach of the Year Andrea Grove-McDonough has stacked her lineup to include juniors Alex Bauer and Morgan Hicks, and sophomores Jaydon Cirincione, Karina James, Bailey Ranta and Lianna Surtz, all of whom earned their trip to this year's race. Â
Surtz finished runner-up (20:57.6) at the Falcon Invitational 6K, the highest individual finish by a Rocket this season. While at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational (Oct. 13), all seven Rockets recorded personal-best 6K times.
Toledo has finished in the top 10 of three races this season, including a first-place team finish at Bowling Green's Mel Brodt Collegiate Open on Sept. 15. UT had a strong showing at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational (Sept. 10), finishing 10th overall, following four nationally ranked teams and three teams receiving votes that week.
Toledo has eight conference titles under its belt, taking the crown most recently in 2021 and 2022. The Rockets have won three consecutive titles one other time in program history, from 2010-12.
