Rockets prepare for their final races of the regular season before the Mid-American Conference Championships
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams are back in action for the final regular season races at a pair of venues this Friday, Oct. 13. The women's team will send a group of eight runner to compete at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational. Two other women's runners will travel down to Bowling Green with the men's squad to compete at the Falcon Invitational on Friday beginning with the men's 8K race at 4:30 p.m. and then the women's 6K at 5:15 p.m.
The 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships will occur on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Bowling Green, Ohio at the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course.
In the women's team's most recent action, senior transfer Vilde Henriksen led the Rockets to a ninth-place finish at Loyola Chicago's Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 1. In her first race of the season, Henriksen finished 36th overall and was followed by senior Madeline Vining (46th), sophomore Lianna Surtz (48th), junior Morgan Hicks (62nd), and junior Joy Chirchir (65th) to score. In a tough field of teams, UT finished behind five nationally ranked teams.
The men's squad finished 10th in Chicago earlier this month and was led by sophomore Dennis Mutai, who finished sixth overall in the 8K race. Mutai, along with senior Benjamin Otis (46th), freshman Joad Martinho (62nd), senior Jake Rethman (68th), and senior Geoff Howles (75th), all scored for the Rockets to finish ahead of regional opponents Indiana and Ohio State.
