Olivia Gang leads Rockets at Notre Dame event with career-best third-place finish
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Toledo women's cross country team won the women's Gold Division 5K race at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday. Graduate student Olivia Gang paced the Rockets with a career-best third-place finish with a time of 17:16.01 on the Burke Golf Course.
Sophomore Lily DiCola also registered a Top 10 showing, placing seventh in a time of 17:28.07. Also scoring for the Rockets were graduate student Cadence Christie (12th/17:33.77), junior Lauren Zanotelli (20th/17:50.18), and freshman Anna Carruthers (29th/17:57.80).
"I'm really proud of how this group competed today," Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough said. "We ran the second half of our lineup in a big-meet environment, and they took full advantage of the opportunity. To come away with the win and finish ahead of several conference programs that brought their top groups says a lot about the depth we have on this team. More importantly, they executed the way we asked them to and competed with confidence from start to finish. There's a lot of positive momentum building throughout the entire program right now. We're excited to carry that into Nuttycombe next week and get an opportunity to see where we stack up against some of the best teams in the country."
Freshman Joshua Carlin paced the Rockets in the Men's Open 8K race with a time of 25:29.4. Also competing for the men were freshman Sage Edgerly-Bork (53rd/25:55.48), freshman Edison Lopeman (54th/25:57.66), junior Alex Martinez (66th/26:08.77) and freshman Brennan LaRusso (83rd/26:37.81).
The Toledo women return to action next week when it runs against numerous nationally-ranked programs at Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9.
