Indoor Track Season Begins at Michigan’s Wolverine Invitational

Toledo will open the new year in Ann Arbor on Saturday morning
Toledo, Ohio – The Toledo women's track & field team will embark on the indoor portion of its 2023 season this Saturday, Jan. 7 in Ann Arbor, Mich. All 13 sprinters and six distance runners will compete at Michigan's Wolverine Invitational, beginning with field events starting at 10:00 a.m. and followed by running events at 1:00 p.m.
Toledo closed the 2022 indoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships, where Joy Chirchir captured first-place finishes in the 3,000m and 5,000m runs, and was named MAC Freshman Runner of the Year and Co-Performer of the Meet. Toledo's lone silver medal came from Emily Vining in the 3,000m, while Krystal Clark (800m) and Madeline Vining (5,000m) had third-place finishes.
The Midnight Blue and Gold return 29 student-athletes from the 2021-22 season, including distance runners Emily Vining and Lou Trois, and sprinters Mayson Bates and Ava Moran. The four captains will be leaders to the new additions to the squad this season, which includes sophomore transfer Alex Bauer (Walsh University) and 15 freshmen.
Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough, now in her fourth season, added Spencer Cameron-Pressley as an assistant coach. Cameron-Pressley will work primarily with sprinters and jumpers.
