Rockets Roll in 82-63 Win vs. RedHawks

Quinesha Lockett leads the way with 22 points, moves into sixth place on Toledo's all-time scoring list

TOLEDO, Ohio – Behind Quinesha Lockett's 22 points, the Toledo women's basketball team (14-4, 5-2 MAC) cruised to an 82-63 win against Miami (7-13, 2-5 MAC) at home on Wednesday.

Lockett has now scored at least 20 points in four of her last five games and is averaging 21.3 PPG in MAC play. The Omaha, Neb. native entered rare air on Wednesday, passing former Rocket greats Kelly Savage and Kim Sekulski to move into sixth place all-time in career scoring in school history.

Toledo led by seven at the end of the first quarter before shooting 10-of-14 from the floor in the second quarter to take a 42-17 lead into halftime. The lead would grow to a game-high 38 points near the midway point of the third quarter and settle at 19 points when the final horn sounded.

"It felt good to get the 'W' tonight against a talented team," head coach Tricia Cullop said. "I thought our defense was awesome in the first half, holding them to 17 points. They have three players who are very capable of having a 30-point night, and one of them almost did. Ivy Wolf, Maddi Cluse, and Peyton Scott are very talented players and I was very happy to see the defensive intensity we showed. I also want to congratulate Quinesha Lockett on moving into sixth place all-time in career scoring. She moved ahead of Kelly Savage and Kim Sekulski tonight, and those are two names that are pretty powerful in our history."

Lockett's 22 points came on 10-of-13 shooting and she added a game-high six assists as well. Junior  Khera Goss and sophomore Jessica Cook also scored in double figures on Wednesday, recording 12 points apiece on identical 5-of-6 shooting efforts. Senior Jayda Jansen added nine points and junior Sammi Mikonowicz contributed eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Toledo shot 54.2% from the floor, connecting on 32-of-59 shots, its eight game this season shooting 50% or higher. The Rockets held the RedHawks to 35.8% shooting (19-for-53) and have now held their opponents to sub-40% shooting in 11-of-18 contests.

UT feasted on Miami turnovers, scoring 23 points off 12 RedHawk miscues.

Miami's Ivy Wolf was the team's leading scorer coming into the game and led all players with a season-high 29 point while making 13-of-14 free throws.

Following Wednesday's game, Toledo will play four of its next six games on the road. Its next game is this Saturday, Jan. 28 at Eastern Michigan at 1:00 p.m. The Rockets will return home on Saturday, Feb. 4 to play Ohio at 2:00 p.m. To purchase tickets to Toledo women's basketball games, visit the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at the Sullivan Athletic Complex in Savage Arena, contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653) or go online to UTRockets.com/tix.
