BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 2-2 tie at rival Bowling Green in the annual Battle of I-75 Thursday evening.
Morgan Otteson scored her fifth goal of the season in the 27th-minute to put Toledo ahead 1-0. The Rockets held that lead until Bowling Green scored the equalizer at the 59th-minute. The Rockets regained the lead six minutes later with a tip-in goal from Mia Leonetti, but the Falcons tied the game in the 78th minute. Neither team could score in the final 10 minutes and the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.
"It was a good game," head coach TJ Buchholz said. "It is tough when you're up a goal and you feel like the game is in-hand, but at the same time Bowling Green is a really good team. When you're able to take the conference champions to a tie at their place, we'll take it and we've got a lot to build on. It's been a couple weeks of tough stuff, but this is good for us to be able to put this together on the road and get this result.
"I give credit to Bowling Green because they're a good soccer team. Despite giving up two goals, I though our defense weathered a lot. Karson Hill had a great game and our back line was solid. Mia Leonetti's goal was awesome and similar to Morgan Otteson's goal. It's never easy to win on the road. We can keep our heads up with a tie."
Goals and Key Moments
Toledo will honor its senior class prior to the 1:00 p.m. kickoff vs. Northern Illinois at Paul Hotmer Field on Sunday, Sept. 25.
