Rockets Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Regionals on Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Semra Karaslan just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday as Toledo wrapped up the NCAA East Regional Preliminary meet at Indiana's Haugh Track & Field Complex.

Senior Semra Karaslan finished fifth in her heat of the 3000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:05.38 and finished 13th overall. She was just over two seconds behind Syracuse's Annie Boss, who finished at 10:03.16. Karaslan's time surpassed her previous best by 56 seconds, good for the fifth-best time in the 3000m steeplechase in program history.

Sophomore Emily Vining also competed in the 3000m steeplechase and crossed the finish line eighth in her heat with a time of 10:16.63. She finished 22nd overall in a group of 48 runners.

Senior Stephanie Sherman ran a 16:25.38 to finish 18th in her heat of the 5000m race. The top-12 runners advance to the championship race in two weeks, and Sherman finished 32nd overall in a group of 48 runners.

Junior Faith Linga will be Toledo's lone representative at the NCAA Championships when she runs in the 10,000m race in two weeks in Eugene, Ore.
