Five Rockets will compete in four events at the 2022 NCAA East Regional Championships.

Five Rockets Qualify for NCAA East Regional Championships

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track and field team will be represented by five Rockets who have qualified to compete in the 2022 NCAA East Regional Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, May 25-28 in Bloomington, Ind. The University of Indiana will host the meet at Haugh Track & Field Complex.

Senior Semra Karaslan and sophomore Emily Vining qualified for the 3000m steeplechase. Karaslan qualified with a personal-best time of 10:05.94 at the Virginia Challenge (April 22). Karaslan also finished runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 MAC Championships (May 13). At last year's 2021 NCAA East Regional, Karaslan finished 24th in the prelims with a time of 10:25.89.

Vining qualified following her sixth-place finish and personal-best time of 10:15.81 at the Joe Walker invitational (April 8). Vining took third at the MAC Championships (May 13) and 12th at the Virginia Challenge

Junior Faith Linga and senior Stephanie Sherman qualified for the 10,000m race. Linga qualified with a personal-best time of 33:49.76 at the Virginia Challenge (April 22). Linga won the 10,000m race at the MAC Championships (May 12) with a time of 33:57.02. Sherman qualified for the 10,000m following her second-place finish at the MAC Championships with a time of 33:59.39. At last season's 2021 NCAA East Regional, Sherman finished 11th in the event (34:08.86), and at the 2021 NCAA Championships she finished 16th (33:35.31) to receive Second-Team All-American honors. Sherman also qualified for the 5,000m race following her fourth-place finish and 16:15.79 time at the Joe Walker Invitational (April 8).

Sophomore Lou Trois qualified for the 1500m following her first-place finish at the MAC Championships last weekend. Trois' time of 4:19.45 was a personal-best and the third-best time in program history.

In each individual event, the top 48 competitors qualified for the East Regional. The top-12 in each event will join the top-12 finishers from the West Regional for a field of 24 at the national championships. The 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will take place Wednesday-Saturday, June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
