Rockets Fall to EMU in Championship Match of Yestingsmeier Match Play

DADE CITY, Fla. – No. 1 seed Toledo fell in the championship match to No. 2 seed Eastern Michigan on Tuesday at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Event. The eight-team competition was hosted by Mid-American Conference member Ball State at the Lake Jovita Golf Course.

"The team is disappointed but they won't stay upset for long," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "We're looking forward to getting the stroke-play portion of the schedule going next week."

The Rockets advanced to the finals this morning when they concluded their semifinal match. Toledo posted a 4-1-1 victory over Drake after Monday's play was suspended due to darkness.

Sophomore Barend Botha and senior Lukas Clark registered the Rockets' victories vs. the Eagles at No. 1 and No. 3. The duo finished the two-day event undefeated in three matches.

Toledo will return to action next week when it travels to Mobile, Ala. for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 14-15.
