TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team will play its second doubleheader of the season, this time at home on Friday, Feb. 4. The Rockets will host Northwestern Ohio at 1:00 p.m. followed by a match with Wayne State at 7:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
"These teams both will come in here like it's their Super Bowl," head coach
Al Wermer said. "They are dangerous and will play hard. We'll have to be ready for the challenge."
Last Time Out
In back-to-back matches on Saturday, Jan. 29, Toledo lost a 4-2 battle to Michigan State and came back to pick up its first dual win of the season 5-2 over Bucknell. Sophomore
Pawit Sornlaksup and junior
Luka Jankovic each went 2-0 in singles competition. Sornlaksup's two victories came in the No. 1 courts in comeback style, winning the second and third sets for match wins over the MSU's Jack Winkler and Bucknell's Nick Mueller.
Sornlaksup's efforts earned him Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week honors.
About Northwestern Ohio
UNOH was recently picked to win the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championship and sit at No. 16 in the NAIA. The Racers are six-time defending WHAC Champions and are coming into the spring portion of the 2021-22 season with a 4-2 mark.
About Wayne State
Wayne State ended its fall season at the Purdue Northwest Invitational (Oct. 17) and won three bracket titles. Cedric Drenth/ Daniel Grey took the A Doubles title, Niklas Karcz/Joe Steele won B Doubles, and Luke Laws won the C Singles bracket.
Fans planning to attend are encouraged to wear masks at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
