TOLEDO, Ohio – Postseason play for the Toledo women's volleyball team begins this weekend as the Rockets face Clemson in the first round of the NIVC on Saturday.
Saturday's match between Toledo (18-12) and the Tigers (13-17) will start at 4:00 p.m. and be streamed live on ESPN+. The match will be held at Liberty Arena on the campus of Liberty University. The host Flames will face Western Carolina in first-round action at 1:00 p.m. Winners of both matches on Saturday will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the second round.
2022 NIVC
The National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) involves 32 of the nation's top women's Division I Volleyball teams. All games, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools. Every round is single elimination.
- Round 1-2 – Dec. 1-4
- Round 3 – Dec. 6, 7, or 8
- Semifinals – Dec. 8, 9, 10, or 11
- Championship – Dec. 12 or 13
Toledo in the NIVC
The Rockets made their first-ever NIVC appearance last season, advancing to the second round after defeating Indiana State in round one.
In the five-set win over the Sycamores,
Sina Uluave notched a double-double with a career-high 20 kills and 13 digs while hitting .350.
Elaine Redman also had a double-double, collecting a career-high 56 assists as well as 12 digs. Redman was also excellent at the service line, tallying a career-best five service aces.
Taylor Alt added 16 kills, and
Olivia Vance compiled 10 kills and a team-best five blocks.
Rhyen Neal led Toledo with 14 digs.
Toledo lost in the second round to eventual NIVC Runner-Up Valparaiso.
Rocket Notes
- Toledo is one of six MAC teams to advance to the postseason. Ball State and Bowling Green both advanced to the NCAA Tournament, while the Rockets are joined by Ohio, Central Michigan, and Buffalo in the NIVC.
- For the third time in her career, Taylor Alt earned First-Team All-MAC honors. Her three all-league awards match former Rockets DeSeana Williams (1991-93) and Kassie Kadera (2009-11) for most career All-MAC distinctions in school history. Alt is the only Rocket in school history with multiple first-team all-conference honors.
- Alt led the MAC in kills (4.04/set) and scoring (4.64 points/set) this season, the only player to average at least four kills per set and one of only two players to averaged at least four points per set.
- The Rockets have won 18 matches this year and won 20 last year, the first time they have collected double-digit win totals in back-to-back seasons since 2016-17 and the most wins in back-to-back seasons since posting 44 combined wins from 1982-83.
- Toledo has only faced Clemson once before, on Sept. 9, 1988. The Tigers won that match in four sets.
About Clemson
Clemson posted a record of 13-17 this past season and had three players earn All-ACC honors. Senior Mckenna Slavik and junior Camryn Hannah were named Second Team All-ACC, while freshman Mia McGrath was tabbed as an ACC All-Freshman selection. Slavik led the ACC in assists (10.34/set) and Hannah ranked ninth in the league in kills (3.44/set).
