TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior
Barend Botha was named Mid-American Conference Co-Men's Golfer of the Week by the league office on Thursday. It is the fourth time in his career he has received the weekly award and the second time this season a Rocket has been honored.
A George, South Africa native, Botha produced the best 54-hole outing of his Rocket career in Toledo's final fall tournament when he placed sixth at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla. Botha fired five-under par 67s in both his opening and final round to finish with a career-low 11-under par 205.
Botha's performance helped the Rockets tie for seventh place with No. 29 Notre Dame in a tournament field that was comprised of mostly Top 100 schools, including six ranked in the Top 50.
Botha was also part of a team effort that produced school records for lowest 18-hole score (16-under 272)  and 54-hole score (29-under par 835). He has a career-low 70.7 stroke average this fall and has shot par or better in 11 of 15 rounds.
