TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo senior punter
Bailey Flint was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation today. The award has recognized the best football scholar-athlete in the nation every year since 1990.
Flint has been Toledo's regular punter since 2017 and is on the watch list for the 2021 Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter. He is averaging 42.8 yards per punt through four games this season. He was named MAC West Division Special Teams Player of the Week following the Notre Dame game on Sept. 11 when he averaged 45.4 yards per punt. His best season came in 2019 when he was averaging 47.3 yards per punt until his season was cut short due to injury.
Flint graduated with a 3.87 GPA in media communications and theater. He currently carries a 3.94 GPA in the UToledo graduate school, where his major is liberal studies with a focus in theater.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 27, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Mazda. Later this year, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 32nd William V. Campbell Trophy and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000 and receive his own 25-pound-bronze version of the iconic statue.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.
