BREMERTON, Wash. – Sophomores Barend Botha and Jamie Tofte Nielsen each shot rounds in the 60s on Tuesday to help the Toledo men's golf team move up four spots in the final round of Washington's Husky Invitational. The Rockets carded their second even-par 288 of the tournament today to finish tied for 11th place at 10-over par 874 at the par-72, 7,135-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club.
Â
"The team displayed promise during this tournament but also showed room for improvement," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "Playing two out of three rounds at a high level was a good building block. It was good to see Jamie continue his good play from the summer, as well as Barend playing solid. Everyone showed good things that we can work on moving forward."
Â
Botha fired a team-best four-under par 68 today to finish the tourney in 25th place at one-under par 215. After opening his round with a bogey, he registered five birdies and 12 pars the remainder of his round.
Â
Nielsen carded a career-low three-under 69 en route to a 21st-place tie at two-under 214. He was at five-under par through 13 holes before registering a double-bogey and bogey.
Â
Senior Lukas Clark tied for 44th place at five-over par 221 and joined classmate Max Siegfried with eagles on par-five holes. Siegfried tied for 77th place at 231, while senior David Amm tied for 63rd place at 226.
Host Washington and Nevada tied for the team title at 18-under par 846, while Oregon State's Brandon Eyre earned medalist honors at nine-under 207.
