Toledo to Face Challenging 2021-22 Schedule

6/30/2021 2:11:00 PM

Toledo, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's golf team will be challenged by another strong schedule during its 2021-22 campaign, Head Coach Jeff Roope announced on Wednesday. The Rockets will travel to eight different states and face some of the nation's top programs during its upcoming season.

"I would like to think that this is probably the most balanced schedule we have faced in recent years," Roope said. "We will have the luxury of a fall and spring season this year meaning that we can schedule with both momentum and appropriate amounts of rest in mind.  We have a nice mix of events where some are elite, some are local, some are return trips, some are new to us, and all are quality tournaments run by first-class programs and coaches.  We really are looking forward to getting back out there as a team."

Toledo will open its fall season in the Pacific Northwest at Washington's Husky Invitational on Sept. 20-21 before heading to Madison, Wis. for Badger Invitational on Sept. 26-28.

The Rockets will take two weeks off following that busy week before competing in three tournaments in a 13-day span beginning at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational on Oct. 11-12. UT will then travel to Vero Beach, Fla. for the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 17-18 and wrap up its fall at UNC-Greensboro's Grandover Collegiate (Oct. 23-24).

The Rockets will open their spring season in Dade City, Fla. at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event on Feb. 7-8. Toledo will then return to South Alabama's Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Feb. 14-15 before competing at FGCU's Coral Creek Club Invitational on Feb. 28-March 1.

Toledo's only tournament in the month of March will be its third appearance in the last four years at Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. on March 20-22. The Rockets will then receive their final tuneups prior to the MAC Championships with appearances at North Carolina State's Stitch Intercollegiate (April 8-9) and Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate (April 23-24).

The Rockets return six letterwinners for the 2021-22 campaign, including Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year Barend Botha. Botha posted a team-best 73.5 stroke average last season.
