TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo freshman Barend Botha has received First-Team All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2021 season, the league office announced on Friday. Botha also was named the MAC's Freshman of the Year at the completion of last weekend's league championships and is the lone freshman to appear on either the first- or second-team all-conference squads.
 
A native of George, South Africa, Botha paced the Rockets with a 73.5 stroke average this season and led or tied for the team lead in all but one tournament.

Botha registered three Top 10 finishes with his top two showings coming with seventh-place finishes at Iowa's Hawkeye Invitational (April 17-18) and South Alabama's Mobile Bay Intercollegiate (Feb. 15-16). During those events, he carded his season-best totals for 18 and 54 holes, respectively with a six-under par 66 in Iowa and a six-under par 210 in Alabama.
