TOLEDO, Ohio – Five athletes from the University of Toledo women's track and field team have qualified to compete at the NCAA East Regional Championships on May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Senior
Petronela Simiuc qualified to compete in the 1500m with a time of 4:13.62 at the West Coast Relays and ranks 11
th in the NCAA Division I East. Simiuc also qualified to compete in the 800m with a time of 2:05.73 at the 2021 MAC Outdoor Championships ranking 35
th in the NCAA East, but will not compete in this event at the prelims. Simiuc took first in the 1500m and the 800m races at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Senior
Stephanie Sherman has qualified to compete in both the 5000m and 10,000m race. In the 5000m, Sherman had a season-best time of 16:15.81 at the Rick Erdmann Twilight ranking her 62nd in the NCAA East. Sherman also ranks 42
nd in the 10,000m with a time of 34:25.35 at the Raleigh Relays. Sherman finished second in the 5000m and 10,000m races at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Senior
Yana Khabina qualified to compete in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.10 at the Knights Invite. Khabina goes into the prelims ranked 47
th in the East. Khabina finished third in the 400m hurdles at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Junior
Semra Karaslan and freshman
Emily Vining have both qualified to compete in the 3000m Steeplechase. Karaslan qualified with a time of 10:15.19 at the Raleigh Relays and ranks 37
th. Vining ranks 41
st with a time of 10:17.68 at the Rocket Invitational. Karaslan finished first in the 3000m steeple, followed by Vining in third at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
In each individual event, 48 competitors qualified for the East regional. The top 12 finishers in each event will join the top 12 finishers from the West regional for a field of 24 at the national championships. The NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will take place June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
