MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Senior Yana Khabina  made her season debut at the Mountaineer Classic, finishing second in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:16.21 to lead the Toledo women's track & field team in Friday night action. It was Khabina's first-ever attempt running the 800.Â
Â
Despite the bitter cold weather in Morgantown, West Va., the Rockets were able to come up with some impressive runs. Junior Rebecca Snyder finished second in the 1500m with a time of 4:47.45, followed by senior Riley Kwiatkowski in eighth (4:55.16) and sophomore Paige Embaugh  in 10th with a personal-best time of 4:59.31. Â
Â
"Morgantown's weather was not friendly today," said Associate Head Coach Adrian Ghioroaie. "Temperatures fell below 40 degrees and it was snowing, making it very hard for our athletes to compete at their best."
Other top performances for the Rockets came from sophomore Ava MoranÂ, who finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 13:13. Freshman Alexia Moehling competed in her first event of the outdoor season, finishing fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.92.
Â
The men's cross country competed as well on Friday in the 1500m and 5000m events, running personal-best times by the entire squad. Sophomore Jonathan Hrivnak finished fourth in the 500m with a time of 15:20.57, followed by freshman Caleb Newlon in sixth (15:25.95), and sophomore Jake Reaume (15:35.78).  In the 1500m, freshman Nathan Kemp led the Rockets with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 4:05.62. Sophomores Tanner Delk  and Alex Kelker  finished 13th (4:16.80) and 21st (4:31.43), respectively.
The Rockets are scheduled to compete next at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss. on Friday-Saturday, April 9-10. On Sunday, April 11, some of the Rocket women will be competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.
