IOWA CITY, Iowa – Junior David Amm matched his career-best round as a Rocket with a three-under par 69 on Sunday to help the Toledo men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at this weekend's Hawkeye Invitational. Amm's performance also helped him tie for 12th place at the University of Iowa's par-72, 7,157-yard Finkbine Golf Course for his second-best finish as a collegian.
Freshman Barend Botha led the Rockets in the tournament with a seventh-place finish, marking his third Top 10 showing in six tournaments this season. Botha shot a one-under par 71 today to finish at five-under par 211.
"Barend has had a heck of a freshman campaign and continues to show flashes of excellence in what has been a heck of a freshman campaign," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. David is learning to make something out of nothing. He didn't hit the shots he necessarily wanted but made it work. We are looking forward to finishing our season strong the next two weekends at Ohio State and the MAC Championships."
Junior Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi tied for 33rd place at six-over par 222, while senior Nate Thomson and sophomore NJ Botha tied for 53rd place at 12-over par 228.
No. 43 Iowa posted a five-shot victory over Kansas to win the tournament title at 24-under 840, with the Hawkeyes' Alex Schaake earning medalist honors at 12-under par 204 (65-68-71).
