Rockets to Compete in Furman Intercollegiate This Weekend

3/25/2021 3:18:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's golf team will travel to Greenville, S.C. this weekend to participate in the 51st annual Furman Intercollegiate on Friday-Sunday, March 26-28 at the par-71, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course. Tee times for the first two days will begin at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. while Sunday's final round will commence with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.

"We are looking forward to getting back into action," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "This will be our fourth different lineup this spring, and I think that's a good thing. It is nice to have some interchangeable parts and allow all the guys to get some top five experience before we get into our stretch run.  It will also be the last three-day, 54-hole event we play, which I think has been good experience for us as well.  It requires the team to prepare for an extra day of competition, to start and stop a round one additional day, to game plan and post-round evaluate an extra day, and a bunch of other similar intangibles."

The Rockets will be competing against an 18-team field that includes the host Paladins as well as Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Connecticut, Florida Gulf Coast, Francis Marion, George Mason, High Point, Marshall, Presbyterian, Samford, Towson, USC-Aiken, Western Carolina, Wofford and Xavier.

Toledo's lineup will include juniors David Amm and Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi, sophomore NJ Botha and freshmen Barend Botha, Jamie Tofte Nielsen. Senior Nate Thomson is competing as an individual.

Barend Botha leads the Rockets with a 72.9 stroke average in three tournaments this season and has posted Top 10 finishes in his last two outings. Mohd Fathi and NJ Botha have registered 74.3 and 74.4 scoring marks for Toledo.
