TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's basketball team hosts Ball State on Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.
The Rockets (10-11, 6-11 MAC) and Cardinals (12-9, 10-7 MAC) are set to tip off at Noon on ESPN3 at Savage Arena.
Saturday will serve as the team's annual "Rockets for the Cure" game in support of breast cancer awareness. Since the promotion began in 2010, the Toledo women's basketball program has raised more than $157,000 for cancer research, including $15,972 last year.
These two teams met once this season in Muncie, with Ball State claiming a 93-78 victory on its home court.
Quinesha Lockett was excellent for the Rockets in that game, scoring a career-high 34 points on 13-of-23 shooting, including 6-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Last Time Out
The Rockets enjoyed one of their best wins of the season on Wednesday, taking down Central Michigan on the road, 72-67.
The Rockets grabbed control of the game early, taking a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. But CMU slowly chipped away at its deficit, whittling it down to nine at halftime and to just one, 51-50, through three quarters. Central Michigan briefly took the lead in the fourth quarter, but Toledo recovered and held on for win.
Sammi Mikonowicz scored 15 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter to help Toledo seal the deal.
Sophia Wiard added 15 points and four assists, while Lockett contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
