Rockets Stifle Red Flash in 86-33 Victory

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's basketball team turned in an exceptional performance on Wednesday, trouncing St. Francis (Pa.) 86-33 at Savage Arena.

The Rockets (4-2) held the Red Flash (0-8) to just 33 points, the fewest by a Toledo opponent since 2012, when UT also held Ohio to 33 points in a 52-33 win in Athens. The 53-point margin of victory was the largest by a Rocket squad since a school record-tying 57-point win over Iona in 2002.

Toledo held St. Francis to single digits in three of four quarters on Wednesday, including a low of four points in the fourth quarter.

"Kudos to our defense and my coaching staff to prepare us for today's game," head coach Tricia Cullop said. "It feels good to get a win today. I thought it was really important that we got off to a fast start, especially playing at home. I was really proud of the effort our players showed today."

All 11 Toledo players that played on Wednesday scored, with sophomore Nan Garcia leading the way with a career-high 20 points. Garcia had her best game as a Rocket against St. Francis, making 8-of-11 shots from the floor and all three of her three-point attempts.

Junior Sophia Wiard notched a double-double, the third of her career, scoring 15 points while collecting 10 rebounds in addition to dishing out five assists. Junior Quinesha Lockett (15) and sophomore Khera Goss (10) both reached double figures in scoring as well. Lockett stuffed the box score, adding six rebounds, four assists, and three steals in conjunction with her 15 points.

Toledo shot a scorching 57.1 percent from the field (36-for-63) and made 10-of-22 shots from beyond the arc, while St. Francis shot just 26.9 percent (14-for-52) and connected on 4-of-18 three-point shots. The Rockets also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Red Flash 41-28.

Next up for Toledo is a home game against Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
