TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's basketball team visits SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday, Dec. 19 for an afternoon matchup with the Cougars. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Rockets (5-2) are coming off a 2-0 week which began with an 86-33 drubbing of St. Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday and continued with a 75-53 win over Loyola (Md.) on Saturday.

Toledo used a strong second half to propel itself past the Greyhounds. Quinesha Lockett led the charge, scoring 24 of her season-high 30 points in the final 20 minutes against Loyola to help turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 22-point win.

Lockett was extraordinary in the second half, making 7-of-8 shots from the floor, including all four of her three-point field goals and all six of her free throw attempts in the final 20 minutes.

Sophia Wiard nearly registered a triple-double, scoring 12 points while collecting nine rebounds and seven assists.

As a team, Toledo shot an even 50 percent (26-for-52) and made 11-of-26 shots from beyond the arc, Loyola shot 42.9 percent (21-for-49) and made just 3-of-9 three pointers. The Rockets also won the battle on the glass, pulling down 34 rebounds while the Greyhounds recorded 23.

Following Sunday's game at SIUE, Toledo will visit Missouri State (7-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 21 in its final non-conference game of the season. Missouri State is ranked 18th in the latest NET rankings and has posted wins over USC, Virginia Tech, and Missouri.

Quinesha Lockett Named MAC Player of the Week
For the second time in her career, Quinesha Lockett was named MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Lockett helped Toledo go 2-0 this past week, securing wins over St. Francis (Pa.) and Loyola (Md.) at home. Lockett scored 15 points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out four assists, and collected three steals in the win over the Red Flash on Wednesday, helping the Rockets post a 53-point victory. Against the Greyhounds on Saturday, Lockett scored a season-high 30 points, scoring 24 in the second half to help lead Toledo to the win. She was extraordinary in the second half, making 7-of-8 shots from the floor, including all four of her three-point field goals and all six of her free throw attempts in the final 20 minutes.

Rocket Notes

The Rockets lead the MAC in scoring defense (58.43) and field goal percentage defense (36.2%) and rank second in scoring margin (+15.86).
Three of UT's five wins have come by more than 20 points.
Toledo has shown good discipline thus far, leading the MAC in fewest fouls (109) and fewest turnovers (85). UT's turnover total is the fourth-lowest in the country.
Quinesha Lockett leads the MAC and ranks eighth in the country in scoring (21.7 PPG). She has scored at least 20 points in five of seven games this season.
Toledo has eclipsed 50% shooting in three of its last four games. UT shot 50.0% against Loyola (Md.), 57.1% against St. Francis, and 51.8% from the field in the win over Idaho State. The performance against the Bengals was the first time UT eclipsed 50% shooting since a game at Buffalo on Feb. 8, 2020 (55.8%).
Four Rockets have notched double-doubles this season: Jessica Cook (2), Quinesha Lockett (1), Nan Garcia (1), and Sophia Wiard (1).
Few players stuff the stat sheet like Sophia Wiard. She has five games with at least 10 points, five games with at least seven rebounds, and five games with at least five assists.
Wiard led the MAC in assist/turnover ratio last season and sits atop the league again this season (3.50) and ranks 7th in the country.
One more Wiard note: she crashes the boards as well as anybody in the MAC; she currently leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (6.71).

About SIU-Edwardsville
SIUE enters Sunday's game with a record of 4-5 and a 2-2 mark on its home court. The Cougars posted an impressive win over Big Ten member Illinois earlier this season, winning 71-62 on Nov. 18. Freshman Gabby Nikitinaite was named Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Newcomer of the Week earlier this week after averaging 21.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG across three contests. SIU-Edwardsville is averaging 68.8 PPG, which puts them third in the OVC in scoring.
