Maxen Hook.
Toledo's 2021 All-MAC honorees:
Tycen Anderson: The Toledo native is now a two-time All-MAC honoree after earning second-team honors last season. Anderson missed the first three games of the season due to injury, but has been an impactful player upon returning to action, tallying 42 tackles in nine games and making seven starts at safety. He had a season-high 10 tackles at Ohio, also adding one TFL and forcing a fumble. Last month he was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second time in his career.
Bryce Harris: Harris is now a three-time All-MAC performer, earning second-team distinctions in 2018 and first-team honors last season. Harris has started every game at center this season and has helped lead a Toledo offense that ranks first in the MAC in scoring (34.2 points/game) and fourth in total offense (434.8 yards/game). Earlier this year, he became the all-time leader in games played and games started at Toledo, having appeared in 56 contests and starting 51 along the offensive line since the beginning of his collegiate career. Harris has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this season and was named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Man of the Year Award.
Jamal Hines: A 2019 and 2020 All-MAC honoree, Hines joins Harris as a three-time all-conference performer. Hines has been a disruptive force on defense all season long and ranks second in the MAC in both tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (10.0), the latter of which is tied for 15
th in the country. He is a two-time MAC West Defensive Player of the Week award winner this season, most recently earning that recognition after tallying seven tackles and a career-high 2.5 sacks against Akron last weekend. Hines is third on the team with 82 tackles this season.
Bryant Koback: Now a two-time All-MAC recipient after earning second-team honors in 2019, Koback ranks second in the MAC and 10
th in the country in rushing yards (1,274), and he leads the conference and ranks sixth in the country in yards per carry (6.71). Koback has only gotten stronger as the season has gone one, hitting the 100-yard benchmark in each of the last five games and recording multiple rushing touchdowns in each of the last four contests. Koback now has 3,900 career rushing yards, trailing only Kareem Hunt (4,945), Chester Taylor (4,849) and Wasean Tait (4,338) on Toledo's all-time career rushing list, and his 45 career touchdowns now sit second all-time behind Taylor's 56.
Samuel Womack: This is the first All-MAC honor in Womack's career. He leads the MAC and ranks third in the nation in pass breakups (15), and earlier this season became Toledo's all-time leader in pass breakups, of which he now has 40 since beginning his career in 2017. Womack has also added 31 tackles and an interception this season and has started all but one game at cornerback. Â
Desjuan Johnson: A two-time All-MAC honoree after earning second-team honors last season, Johnson is fifth on the team with 67 tackles and second with 12 tackles for loss. He has also added 4.5 sacks, five QB hurries, and a pair of forced fumbles. Johnson was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25 after collecting six tackles, two TFL, one sack, and forcing a fumble in the win over Western Michigan.
Jonathan Jones: This marks the first All-MAC honor for Jones, who leads the team and ranks 10
th in the MAC in tackles with 91, while also adding 9.0 TFL and 4.0 sacks. He has four games with at least 10 tackles, including a career-high 14 against Ohio.
Devin Maddox: A special teams dynamo, Maddox was named to the All-MAC squad as a return specialist. He ranks third in the MAC in punt return average (9.1 yards/return) and had a long return of 32 yards against Western Michigan. On the offensive end as a wide receiver, Maddox also leads Toledo with 38 receptions and 562 yards and four touchdowns.
Vitaliy Gurman: Gurman is a first-time All-MAC honoree. He has started all 12 games along the offensive line, including the last five at left tackle. Along with Harris, he helps steady an offensive line that has led a Toledo offense that ranks first in the MAC in scoring (34.2 points/game) and fourth in total offense (434.8 yards/game).
Maxen Hook: Hook has broken out in a big way this season and it led to his first career All-MAC honor. The freshman safety is second on the team with 88 tackles and has five games with at least 10 tackles. In the first game of the season against Norfolk State, Hook returned a blocked punt 25 yards for a touchdown, then later blocked a punt that was scooped up and returned another TD.
Dyontae Johnson: Johnson is a first-time All-MAC award recipient, ranking fourth on the team with 76 tackles while also contributing 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Johnson was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the game against Notre Dame, tying a career-high with 10 tackles in addition to registering 1.5 TFL and a QB hurry.
