TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo enters the regular-season finale vs. Akron on Saturday, Nov. 27 (Noon/ESPN+) with some momentum and a chance to clinch a winning record, as well as improve its bowl resume when the invitations go out on Dec. 5.

Toledo (6-5, 4-3 MAC) has not had a losing season since 2009, and would keep that streak alive with a victory over the Zips. The Rockets also have an eye on a bowl invitation, which would be the 19th in their storied history.

Toledo has won two straight games, most recently a 35-23 triumph over Ohio on Nov. 16. Junior Bryant Koback rushed for 203 yards and four touchdowns, including a game-breaker on fourth down in the third quarter, to lead the Rockets. Koback scored from 8, 4, 55 and 13 yards out. The 55-yarder came on fourth-and-one and Toledo holding a slim 14-9 lead midway the third quarter. Toledo led 35-9 before Ohio scored two late touchdowns.

Koback was recently named MAC West Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Bobcats.

With the victory the Rockets became bowl eligible for the 11th consecutive year – every year since 2010, not counting 2020 in which bowl eligibility requirements were waived.

Akron (2-9, 1-6 MAC) has lost five straight games, most recently a 38-0 contest to rival Kent State on Nov. 20.

With its sixth win, Toledo became bowl eligible for the 11th straight year – every year since 2010, excluding 2020 in which bowl eligibility requirements were waived due to COVID (Toledo was 4-2 in 2020).
Bryant Koback rushed for 203 yards vs. Ohio, the third time he has rushed for over 200 yards in a game. He now has 1,139 yards for the season, the second time he has rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season (1187 yards in 2019). He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the past four games and 12 times in his career.
Koback now has 3,765 career rushing yards, passing Terry Swanson (3,601 yards from 2014-17) for fourth in Toledo history. The all-time leader is Kareem Hunt (2013-16) with 4,945 yards.
Senior cornerback Samuel Womack has 15 pass breakups, tied for the most in the country. He has 40 PBUs for his career, the most in Toledo history.
Toledo ranks first in the MAC in scoring defense (21.6), total defense (340.6), passing defense (193.3) and defensive passing efficiency (118.2), and fourth in rushing defense (147.3).
Toledo ranks second in the MAC in scoring offense (32.8) and third in total offense (420.8). UT also ranks second in turnover margin (+0.6), and first in fewest turnovers (six in 11 games), which is also tied for second-fewest in the nation.
Toledo has scored 133 points in its last three games, an average of 44.3 per contest.
