Rockets Set to Host Western Michigan in Key MAC West Game

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo enters this Saturday's game vs. Western Michigan needing a win to stay in the race for the West Division crown of the Mid-American Conference. 

Toledo (3-4, 1-2 MAC) is two games behind league leader Northern Illinois, with the Huskies holding the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Rockets. 

Toledo is coming off a 26-23 overtime setback at Central Michigan last week. Redshirt freshman quarterback Dequan Finn nearly rallied Toledo from a 17-point second-half deficit, but the Rockets came up just short. 

Finn tied the score at 23-23 with 35 seconds left when he scored from 18 yards out. CMU got the ball first in overtime and settled for a 38-yard field goal to take a 26-23 lead. A sack on third down forced Toledo to attempt a 51-yard field goal into the wind, but sophomore Thomas Cluckey's attempt just missed left.

Finn completed 15-of-32 passes for 208 yards in his first start as a Rocket, rallying Toledo from a 20-3 deficit early in the third quarter. He gained 43 yards on the ground and scored twice. Junior Bryant Koback led Toledo's rushing attack with 87 yards on 15 carries. Junior Isaiah Winstead hauled in a team-high 108 receiving yards on four receptions, with Koback also catching four passes for 39 yards.

Western Michigan (5-2, 2-1 MAC) is coming off a 64-31 win over Kent State last week. The Broncos have also defeated Buffalo, 24-17, and lost to Ball State, 45-20.

    • Toledo ranks first in the MAC in scoring defense (18.7) and total defense (316.7), second in defensive passing efficiency (111.4), and third in rushing defesne (143.3).
    •The Rockets also rank sixth in scoring offense (27.7) and total offense (383.9).

    • Redshirt freshman quarterback Dequan Finn made his debut as a starter at CMU, connecting on 15-of-32 passes for 208 yards. Finn also rushed 43 yards and two TDs on 25 carries.
    • Junior Bryant Koback rushed for 87 yards vs. CMU, and now has 3,161 career rushing yards, passing Jalen Parmelee (3,119 yards from 1991-94) to move into seventh place on Toledo's all-time list.
    • Bryce Mitchell's 76-yard kickoff return in the third quarter vs. CMU was the longest by a Rocket since Diontae Johnson returned one 98 yards for a touchdown vs. Nevada on Sept. 22, 2018.
    • Sophomore Thomas Cluckey hit a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, the longest of his career and the longest by a Rocket since Jeremiah Detmer hit a 52-yarder vs. Syracuse in 2011.
