Toledo QB has thrown for 1,853 yards and 14 touchdowns this season
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo quarterback John Alan Richter has been added to the Manning Award Watch List, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced Friday.
The Manning Award is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback and is the only quarterback award that considers postseason performances in its voting. The award honors the accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Richter has thrown for 1,853 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing 66.1 percent of his passes this season. He has thrown just one interception in 2026, showcasing his efficiency and decision-making while leading the Rockets' offense.
The fifth-year quarterback has helped Toledo produce several explosive offensive performances this season, including a 49-48 overtime thriller against Temple in which he threw for 429 yards and four touchdowns, which helped him earn Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. Richter has continued to establish himself as one of the MAC's top quarterbacks in his first season as Toledo's starting QB.
Richter ranks ninth nationally and first in the MAC in passing yards. The Rockets are in the top 30 nationally in scoring offense (36.3 points per game), passing offense (273.4 yards per game) and total offense (458.4 yards per game).
A panel of national college football media members, along with Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning, will select the Manning Award finalists, which will be announced on Dec. 4. The winner will be revealed following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
