TOLEDO, Ohio – Sophomore forward Ellie Pool tallied the only goal of the game as Toledo shut out Central Michigan 1-0 in a key Mid-American Conference matchup at Paul Hotmer Field on Thursday.
The game was scoreless until three minutes into the second half when Ellie Pool put the Rockets up 1-0. The sophomore forward took a pass down the right wing from Madison "Mojo" Medalle and found an opening in the upper right corner of the net.
Toledo now heads into this Sunday's matchup at Eastern Michigan with a 9-4-2, 4-3-0 MAC record. CMU fell to 7-6-0, 4-3-0 MAC.
"I am so happy for our team tonight," head coach TJ Buchholz said. "Central Michigan is a strong team, and it was great for us to get this quality win. Our defense really played well in key moments of the game, and they kept Central Michigan from scoring. Our offense had some strong chances, and it was great to see Mojo get an assist to Ellie for a great goal. We will enjoy this win but have to be ready to play a strong Eastern Michigan team on the road Sunday."
Toledo travels to Ypsilanti on Sunday to face Eastern Michigan at Scicluna Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
