BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's track and field team opened its season on Friday, Jan. 22, falling to Bowling Green in a dual meet on the Falcons' home track, 82-41.
"We had a solid start but had difficulty competing against BG as we do not have competitors for every event," said Coach
Andrea Grove-McDonough. "Some of our athletes are still in quarantine so we had to use some of our multi-event athletes to compete in other events. It has been almost a full calendar since many of our athletes have competed but we are training hard and will continue to improve."
Toledo had two first-place finishers in the meet, with freshman
Promise Cross winning the high jump (1.62m) and sophomore
Madeline Vining taking the 3000m (10:07.10).
Senior
Janell Rowe finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.18m and took third in the high jump with a height of 1.47m.
Freshman
Alexia Moehling finished second with a time of 9.19 in the 60m hurdles. Sophomore
Emily Vining clocked in with a time of 5:04.62 to finish second in the mile. She also came in second in the 800m with a time of 2:22.20. The Rockets finished 1-2-3 in the 3000m, with junior
Maya Hannagan (10:19.84) and junior
Claire Steigerwald (10:29.52) following winner
Madeline Vining in that event.
The Rockets' next event will be at Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Feb. 6 when they take on Central Michigan.
