Rockets to Host Central Michigan Tuesday Night

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (11-4, 6-1 MAC) will look to begin a new winning streak when it hosts Central Michigan (6-7, 2-4 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The contest will tip off at 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and be streamed on ESPN+.

The Rockets, who saw their eight-game unbeaten stretch end with a 95-94 (OT) defeat at Akron on Saturday, are currently tied with Bowling Green for first place in the Mid-American Conference with a 6-1 league mark.

Toledo held an 83-80 lead late in the second half in Saturday's loss before Akron hit a three-pointer with 4.8 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. The Rockets then took a 92-85 advantage with 1:46 remaining in overtime before the Zips rallied, hitting a game-winning trey with 2.9 seconds left.

Senior Marreon Jackson led five Rockets in double figures, finishing just shy of the fourth triple-double in program history. He tallied a team-high 24 points, a career-high tying 10 assists and nine rebounds in 36 minutes. Also scoring in double digits were senior Spencer Littleson (21 pts.), junior Setric Millner Jr. (16 pts.), freshman Ryan Rollins (13 pts.) and sophomore Keshaun Saunders (10 pts.).

Jackson leads the Rockets offensively with 16.7 ppg, 5.3 apg, 1.9 spg and a 94.5 FT% (No. 5 nationally). Rollins ranks second in team scoring with 14.3 ppg with Littleson and Millner tied for third with 13.6 ppg. Littleson ranks fourth nationally with 3.53 treys per game, while Millner leads the Rockets with 7.0 rpg.

CMU snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 75-64 home win over EMU. Senior guard Travon Broadway Jr. leads the Chippewas with 16.8 ppg.

Toledo has won six of its last seven meetings vs. CMU, including a 93-81 road win on Feb. 25 last season that saw Marreon Jackson explode for a career-high 37 points.

•  Toledo is the only school in the MAC to have four players ranked among the Top 20 scoring leaders. Marreon Jackson ranks eighth at 16.7 ppg and is followed by Ryan Rollins (14.3/13th), Setric Millner Jr. (13.6/T-16th) and Spencer Littleson (13.6/T-16th).
•  Littleson leads the Rockets in league scoring with 17.6 ppg followed by Jackson (17.4), Rollins (15.0), Millner (11.7), JT Shumate (8.7 ppg) and Keshaun Saunders (8.7 ppg).
•  Marreon Jackson has scored in double figures in a career-high 36 straight games.
•  Jackson is now in 12th place on Toledo's all-time scoring list with 1,525 career points.
•  Spencer Littleson has scored in double digits in every MAC game and is averaging 20.0 ppg with a 61.0 FG% (25-of-41) and a 57.1 3PTFG% (20-of-35) in his last four games.
•  Littleson's eight treys at Kent State (Jan. 5) and vs. Oakland (Nov. 26) were one shy of the school record held by Kent Murphree on Nov. 24, 1991. Littleson's eight triples at Kent State tied Nate Navigato (2018) for most triples ever by a Rocket in a MAC game.
•  Setric Millner Jr. has registered two double-doubles this season, tallying 17 points and 15 rebounds at Xavier as well as 17 points and 10 boards vs. Kansas City.
•  Millner scored in double digits in his first nine games and has scored a season-high 17 points on five occasions.
•  Ryan Rollins has scored in double digits in 14 of 15 contests and leads MAC freshmen with 14.3 ppg. He ranks second on the team with 5.5 rpg and third with 25 3PTFGs.
•  Rollins leads Toledo with 4.9 defensive rpg and has two double-doubles with 16 points and 13 rebounds at Marshall as well as 16 points and 11 boards vs. Northern Illinois.
•  JT Shumate tallied a season-high 16 points and nine rebounds at WMU (Jan. 2) in his first start as a Rocket and is averaging 8.6 ppg and 4.5 rpg in 26.0 mpg. Shumate, whose sister Katie is a sophomore guard at Kent State, transferred to Toledo from Division II Walsh University and received immediate eligibility in mid-December.
•  Keshaun Saunders has scored in double digits in three straight games, averaging 13.7 ppg with a 72.2 FG% (13-of-18) and 75.0 three-point FG% (6-of-8) in this stretch.
•  Mattia Acunzo scored a season-high 15 points and tied his season best with six rebounds vs. NIU (Dec. 22). In his last seven contests, he is averaging 7.6 ppg and 4.0 rpg with a 56.8 FG% (25-of-44) and a 50.0 three-point FG% (7-of-14).
•  Acunzo leads Toledo with a 53.8 FG% and is 10-of-20 (.500) from three-point range.

SOME TEAM STATISTICAL TIDBITS
•  Toledo's strong start to the season has elevated it to a No. 11 ranking in the CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 poll (Jan. 11). The Rockets are also the MAC's top ranked team in the NET (No. 63) and KenPom (No. 72) rankings.
•  The Rockets received two points in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls this week.
•  Toledo's 6-0 start to its MAC season was just one victory shy of the school record held by the 1978-79 and 2006-07 squads.
•  The Rockets have won five of their six MAC games by double digits and lead the league with a plus-14.6 scoring margin in conference games.
•  Toledo is leading the MAC with a 39.9 3PTFG% and 11.1 3PTFGs per game. Toledo has limited its opponents to a 29.5 three-point mark (3rd in MAC) and 7.2 triples per game.
•  The Rockets tied their school record for three-pointers in a game with 17 triples vs. Eastern Michigan, matching the previous mark vs. Wright State on Dec. 22, 2003.

ON THE HORIZON
Toledo will face Kent State (6-3, 3-2 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 23 in its second home game this week. The Rockets will then begin a stretch of playing four of their next five games on the road at Miami (4-4, 1-2 MAC) on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
